A Tapestry of Love and Betrayal
A Tapestry of Love and Betrayal
Woven into the fibre of my being
I unpick you,
Stitch by painful stitch.
Ours was a love that was challenged - yet true,
Until, you disowned me, erased me from view.
Some threads shimmer, and some threads shine
and some are, invisibly, covered in slime.
With each fibre of betrayal, painfully removed.
I murmur a quiet prayer, that love hold me through.
Some strands I let fly
Into the storm winds that roar
“Let him go, let him go,”
His love is no more.
Then, into a new tapestry of memories I weave
the shimmers of joy, too sweet to destroy.
And then even take - the dark painful threads
As they grew my soul, while I gently bled.
Unpicking these threads, now no longer merged
I find an end, not a failure
And our paths can diverge.
Nederhorst den Berg 2015
I wrote this poem in the aftermath of my divorce from Per Anders. I struggled to find the inner grace and dignity to honour all that had been good about the preceding twenty-five years, while also allowing the pain and the loss to find a place in a new narrative.
